Profile

Hi! I'm Cole, a 21-year-old civil engineering student at Polytechnique Montréal, one of Canada's top engineering universities. I'm passionate about transportation planning, technology, urbanism, and LEGOs. These interests often intersect with wayfinding, maps, diagrams, user experience, and design—areas that inspire many of my projects and fuel my creativity.

Story

I am born in Winnipeg and had spent a few years living in St. John's, Newfoundland. In these places, my parents owned a car, and we were frustrated of it. When we moved finally to Montreal, I've been living here since 2014, we had decided to not own a car, and it changed everything. This is when I finally realized how poorly cities are designed, and how much of our problems (climate change, loneliness epidemic, housing crisis, etc.) are related to how society lays out cities.

Therefore, I had set myself up on a path to change this, especially in North America, and change the way that cities are planned and designed. Having been able to live without a car, has made me wonder how could more people live the same way I have for years and finally find true freedom, which is living without a car, and not being burdened by the endless car payments, maintenance fees, accidents, fuel costs, etc.

Running around Montreal also made me passionate about urbanism. Seeing how the city is formed during my dozen or so kilometers that I travel each time. It allowed me to look around, and see how the city was laid out, as well as observe all its deficiencies.

This website.

The website was started in August 2023, to motivate me to do more research and projects and have a platform to share them.

Notable projects & posts

Mobility Challenge.

Mobility Challenge will be held at Concordia University. I am currently working on the translation, preparation, website and marketing for the challenge.

School

Student journal.

Le Polyscope.

I do the graphic design of the paper version of the student journal at Polytechnique Montréal. I am currently working on creating new brand standards and evolving the techniques to expedite the creation of numbers on print.

Robotics

Advanced robotics team.

FIRST Robotics Competition.

Founder of the robotics team, "Les Sentinelles," at Collège de Montréal. Head of the programming team, setting timeline and objectives, and managing a team of 4 people.

Beginning robotics team.

FIRST LEGO League.

Participated for one year and mentor for one year. I lead the team to win a prize for robot design at the provincial finals.

Currently, I teach and lead a group of students in a disadvantaged area in their robotics journey.

Personal

LEGO train.

The world's largest diesel locomotive.

LEGO train designed by me, published on the official LEGO Bricklink Inc. page. Instructions will be resold to make back money spent on purchasing parts.

LEGO robotics.

I am passionate about LEGO robotics, including MINDSTORMS and SPIKE. To help FIRST LEGO League teams around the world, I created a few base robots with instructions that are open-source.
